: Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: (Sit back - it's a long one!)
I am absolutely heartbroken to announce that due to venue closure, we have had no option but to postpone The Velvet Burlesque presents Cupid Stunts (2.5.20), however, we have rescheduled this show to Saturday 1st May 2021.
All ticket-holders have been notified of their options via email (sent to the email address you have registered with PayPal/other payment correspondence).
Please feel free to contact Lara Gothique
for further information.
As the majority of you know from my website, mailing lists and social media posts, I run all my shows/events as 'not-for-profit'. All my shows/events are initially entirely self-funded, and I then nail-bitingly wait to rely on ticket sales to recoup towards the overheads.
I do not take any money/wages or anything financially for myself for these events! Nothing - zero - nada - ziltch!
Your ticket money pays for the performers, the venue, the staff, the lighting & sound equipment, the licences and insurances, and all the rest of the (many, many!) event overheads. Any profit from the events is rolled right back into the next show, which is why I can continue to offer such incredible value for money with all my events.
* I earn my living teaching, performing, and producing private/corporate events. Public-based shows are my passion for the industry I am in, and something I want to share with as many people as I can.
Financially for 2020, this outbreak has already set me back thousands & thousands of pounds, as I've already paid out for venues, licences, insurances, performers, flights, trains, buses, hotels, equipment hire, promotional materials and promotional production costs (etc., etc.) for all my upcoming events this year. As you know, a lot of these production costs need covering well in advance of the business year starting, and nobody could have predicted all this mess. These production costs are also all non-refundable.
My event insurance won't cover my losses as it's classed as "Force Majeure".
I am also unable to claim anything back via the Government as they are currently only advising people not to go to gatherings/public events, etc. rather than take the responsibility to announce a definite lockdown, thus leaving the full responsibility on venues and businesses to take the crippling losses whilst we try to safeguard our customers as best we can during these worrying times.
I've also now got to reschedule or refund tickets out of my own pocket as the 'ticket-pot' money has already been sunk into all the show(s).
My dance & fitness classes and own performance bookings have also been cancelled as more and more venues are closing.
No money coming in, and more money to find to pay out.
I feel physically sick!
Many of us are in the same boat, and my heart goes out to any one of you who is also currently battling with a business that is now critically at risk. I can only hope that all of us also get through this with our health!
Many businesses such as my own simply do not have the financial resources to survive an extended shutdown period on top of all the financial losses already rapidly accrued, and due to this I (and they) may be lost to the industry forever. I have no idea how long I (we all) have to sit-out this current situation, and at this moment in time, I honestly do not know if my business of over 28 years is going to come through the other side.
I stand in solidarity with shows and performers around the nation (and indeed the world) Ė all UK stages and theatres will be dark for many weeks if not months to come. Myself and my cast are utterly heartbroken that we canít perform for you publicly Ė especially at a time when we all need the power of theatre/performance. The financial impact of postponing/cancelling performances will be significant to so many of us, and as above, it may well threaten the future of a great deal of live entertainment all around the world.
I honestly canít tell you how much it hurts to post this.
Stay safe, everyone.
