In 2017, The Velvet Burlesque will proudly present the second "Sheffield Burlesque & Cabaret Extravaganza"!
A spectacular FESTIVAL of fabulous Burlesque, Vaudeville, Cabaret, Circus, Magic & Variety acts, featuring a cast of multiple award-winning local, national, and international guest performers
displaying tantalising Burlesque and Cabaret routines, daring Circus stunts, Sideshow shenanigans, Boylesque, Drag, and a fair few surprises ... expect nothing less than excellent quality entertainment!

Presented in The Library Theatre set in the heart of Sheffield`s Theatre district, let us welcome you into an exciting, glamorous atmosphere for two nights of unique variety entertainment!

We will also be presenting Neil Kendall's Burlesque & Striptease Museum, and associated lectures & workshops, to compliment the evening shows, and to give each visitor an even greater experience.

The Burlesque Pop-Up Museum

The first museum of its kind in the country - The Museum of Burlesque and Strip-Tease (MOBAST) is an interactive pop-up exhibit using costumes, photographs, filmand ephemera.
It is a unique opportunity to see living Burlesque history.
Many one of a kind items will be on view in this the colourful and fascinating history of the art form.

This unique snapshot into Burlesque history is curated by international photographer Neil Kendall,  who is a board member of the "Burlesque Hall of Fame",
 and is also a world renowned Burlesque historian.

We hope you will join us and pop in for a chat - you'll find Neil in the Carpenter Room at Sheffield Central Library, which is in the same building as the evening shows.

National Award Winning Photographer Neil Kendall has had his work published in publications as diverse as The Guardian to Playboy Magazine and was called ‘a genuine talent’ by Dita Von Teese.

In this hour-long lecture he uncovers tricks of the trade. As well as guiding you through a shoot with a model, he looks at copyright, model releases, the business of photography and promotion through today's challenging social media outlets.  He then moves on to discuss the creative elements of a shoot, including posing your model, flattering light, accentuating features, and creating the perfect setting.
A question and answer session will follow the talk.

Workshop/Lecture 2:
A History of Burlesque: 100 years of undressing to music.

In this hour-long lecture, “Burlesque Hall of Fame” Board Member and acclaimed Burlesque Historian Neil Kendall delves into the colourful and flamboyant history of Burlesque.  From the British Music Halls ‘Tableaux Vivant’, to the full blown glamour of the “Minsky’s” stage in the 1940’s, through to the Go-Go dancing clubs of the 1960’s, this eccentric and swift moving lecture uncovers the fascinating history of Burlesque by a man who has been friends to legendary starts of the Burlesque stage such as Tempest Storm and Blaze Starr.

Richly illustrated with images and exhibits from the 'pop-up' Burlesque & Striptease Museum which also appears at the festival,
"100 years of undressing to music" is eye-opening yet educational and thought provoking.
A question and answer session will follow the talk.
